Caulmert has been chosen to provide planning, engineering, environmental and project management advice to Logik Developments for a £100 million (€114 million) waste-to-energy and biogas project in Flintshire, UK.

Energy company EQTEC agreed a deal in December to purchase and develop land at Deeside Industrial Estate. The site currently has planning permission for a £50 million (€57 million) biogas generation facility for the processing of 182,000 tonnes of municipal, commercial, and industrial waste into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) with the organic waste element being processed via anaerobic digestion to produce 2 MW of biogas.

Caulmert is now working with EQTEC and Logik to secure planning for a gasification plant site, utilising the RDF produced by the waste energy plant, to generate up to 20 MW of green electricity, enough to power 37,500 homes, and 27 MW of thermal heat production.

The electricity and heat will be exported to the grid and/or sold locally through private wire and heat networks with several local industrial energy users registering their interest.

Chris Gooch-Butler, business development director at Caulmert, said: “EQTEC is a world expert in advanced gasification technology and we are excited to work with them and Logik on this innovative project which will contribute to Wales’ zero-waste targets and create clean, sustainable energy for North East Wales.

Employee-owned Caulmert’s relocation comes only 18 months after the business initially opened a St Asaph workplace, together with supervisors Mike Caulfield, Donna Milne, and Allan Smith and two additional employees. Following several contracts wins around North Wales, for example, new multimillion pound colleges in Bangor, Wrexham and Holyhead, in addition to the 14m prestigious Menai Science Parc in Gaerwen, Anglesey, the St Asaph group climbed considerably. The newest 3,300 sq ft building boasts room to 25 members of employees, future-proofing Caulmert against comparable expansion.Caulmert has just recruited a further three new workers to be established in St Asaph within a continuing recruiting drive, with space for as many as 13 more technology, environmental, and planning professional specialists later on. Donna Milne stated: “This movement comes in a very hectic and exciting time for us. Despite beginning only seven decades back, we have four offices across the united kingdom.”Our St Asaph workplace has undergone rapid expansion and we had been bursting at the seams, together with a few members of staff needing to relocate to Bangor prior to the move. “The brand new set-up already has an excellent atmosphere with a superior working environment and we are excited about adding to the staff here at our offices.”Launched in 2009, Caulmert is on track to fulfill an ambitious 15-year expansion program which would see it use 250 people by 2024.
