In 2023, green is the most popular colour for living rooms. New data analysis shows that we are making bolder choices in our living spaces by embracing bright and rich shades, as well as some unexpected colours. It is no surprise that grey came in second place; it is a classic choice for interior decorating. Three shades of versatile blue appeared on the list; classic cream and white proved less popular in 2023.
Teal
Blues with a green hue offer a bit more warmth than mid or light blues, an effect that can be further pronounced with the use of orange or shades of red. Teal is a particularly good choice if you tend to decorate with antiques because it sits well with traditional woods such as mahogany or walnut.
Black
Black decor is a bold choice, but proved more popular than cream or white in 2023. Black rooms can be tricky to decorate, so we always suggest using an off-black.
Pink
Pinks can be tricky to get right, so a good designer and painters can help you avoid sickly sweet outcomes. Chalky and deep berry hues work well on walls, while primary pink can look overwhelming, so opt for a tweed or textured wool sofa and patterned rug for sophistication.
White
While many people dislike white in the home, it is hard to beat a beautifully decorated room in this colour. You can reduce its starkness by incorporating wooden furniture and an off-white rug.
Cream
Cream came in ninth place, perhaps indicating a move away from neutrals. Cream certainly doesn’t have to be plain if you just use it as a base for more colorful palettes—cream goes with just about anything.
Beige
Beige is a warm neutral that makes a great choice for the living room. It’s inviting and light, but not too bright. Pastels may not be an instinctive pairing for this colour, but we love how inviting it looks.
Black and White
Though one of the least colourful schemes on our list, you could go for Little Greene’s warm white and charcoal combination if you are designing a traditional or country home.
Yellow
Yellow is a bright and cheery color that looks good in both natural and man-made environments.
